I’ve Hardened My Heart

by Marina Eckler

I’ve hardened my heart.
Now when it breaks
it breaks horizontally
like a delta
like a flash bulb
like celadon
like a folkart bong
like earth quakes
like safety glass
like an egg shell
like an elephant skin
like faux finishing
like an oil painting
like the desert floor
like lightning.
